I've been thinking a lot about the words: transition, new direction, and shift in terms of my business and my lifestyle. I hear a lot about having a lifestyle business plan. What does that really mean?
For me, it means moving from where you are right now, to where you want to be. It can feel like you are in the middle of the ocean, and the island you know is paradise where all the movers and shakers are partying is only a small speck on the horizon. You've got your site's locked in on it, and you will get there.
The questions that float to the surface are “How?” and “When?” Or even “Why not me?”
The feeling behind “why not me” may arise from jealousy of another's success, or feelings of doubt or unworthiness. We all have these feelings from time to time. I find it's helpful to try to shift those feelings into a more positive space. “Look what great things they've accomplished–it proves that it can be done, and I can do great things too.”
Use that energy as fuel to push you forward in your business, and your life. Let it inspire and lift you up. You are just as worthy. And you are doing great things.
When what you want seems so far in the distance, it may feel like an impossible task. There are things that you can do, right this very instant, to help you move to that paradise.
All it requires is a pen and paper. Write it down. Where you want to be (your goal), and when you want it to happen–in then next 3 months, 6 months, year–put a physical date on it.
Now start to formulate a plan to get you there–one step at a time. Do a little each week on the plan, paddle in the water, one stroke at a time.
It doesn't matter if it's to write a memoir, sell out a stadium, surf a mega wave, or make a movie. As you start to make steps toward your desired goal, you may find that it is taking steps toward you–helpful people or circumstances seem to “coincidentally” arise at just the right time to get you closer.
This phenomeon happened to me recently when I decided I wanted to become certified in ONTRAPORT. The training was only a month away, it was a week in Santa Barbara, and it seemed like an impossible thing for me to do. My husband and my parents stepped forward to take care of our kids and help me with travel arrangements so I could take this giant step. I am truly blessed to have the support of my family to make this shift. And I did. Getting that certification certificate was a big breeze in my sails in terms of where I want to be.
I realized this week what the word “lifestyle” really is–it's what you do EVERY day. Repeated, daily rituals. And to change your lifestyle, you have to take a hard look at what is happening today. Are you taking steps forward, or are you taking steps backward. The power is in your daily living.
This week I challenge you (and myself), to define a desire and write it out on paper. Put it somewhere so you see it every day. Also try to map out those first steps you need to take to get you there. And take one every day.
I would love to know what your desires are, so please leave a comment below. Remember to enjoy the journey and the process.
