I've had a lot of requests for how to create a simple horizontal email signup form for MailChimp for use on WordPress websites.
A few caveats here–there will be some simple coding as you'll be editing your theme's style.css file.
You will need to create your own MailChimp form with just the email address, and choose the Super Slim format within MailChimp. (This is walked through in the video).
In the css file I've included below, you have the option to change the background to your hexadecimal code to coordinate with your site. Look for the comments signified by /**NOTES**/ for details on what to change in the code.
The css code is set to full width or 960px wide and 45px high–you can change these numbers based on your site needs. You may need to tweak the CSS code to suit your site's theme.
The bar is in HTML code. You can put this in a widget that supports HTML, you can put this in a Post or Page–remember to switch the editor screen to “TEXT” and not “VISUAL” (the WYSIWYG editor). Put it before your code, after your code, where ever you wish!
Click the link to open the CSS file. Then copy and paste into the bottom of your theme's style.css file: MailChimphorizontal.css.
Happy coding! If this gives you tired head, there is a plugin called Magic Action Box, which is free or an upgraded pro version. Watch my walk through on this free plugin.
OptinSkin for $67 can also help you do this as well. There's also a plugin called Web Form Builder from CoffeeCup that has a free version and a paid version. If you scroll to the bottom of the page, you can login with your MailChimp account and get 50% off the $44 one time fee.
