You can start designing a mood board for beautiful branding, with a free and fun tool—Pinterest. Pinterest lets you leverage all the other pinners who have come before you. They've done a lot of the heavy lifting for you.
Get Aligned
Take a moment to look around your house, in your closet.
What colors, fabrics, styles are you personally attracted too?
Now step into the shoes of your ideal client.
What do you think your ideal client is attracted to? Are her tastes similar to yours, or is she the total opposite?
Remember her story, and where she wants to be in her life.
When you make this mood board, paint not only for yourself, but for her in her ideal lifestyle–her transformation AFTER working with you.
Okay, now that we're in the right head space, let's have fun!
Pinning
First, open a Pinterest account. If you have one, whoo! Take one giant step forward.
Next, create a new board called Mood Board.
Now, go back to Pinterest's main feed, and use the search tool.
Here are a few things you can search on:
- color palettes
- decor + your style words for your ideal client (modern, classic, french, country french, bohemian, etc.)
- fashion + your style words for your ideal client
- art + one of your primary colors in your color palette
- travel + places your client dreams of
- backyard or home outdoors + style words
- patterns + style words
- logos or logotypes
Mix these searches up by narrowing your search by color or a key style phrase. Have fun, and when you come across something you like, pin it to your Mood Board.
You can also install the “pin it” button to your browser bar and surf your favorite websites to pin images to your mood board.
There's no right or wrong to this exercise. Pin generously, and then wait a bit, come back to your board and see what really resonates with you. Move any pins that don't resonate off your board, and only keep those that feel like you, your brand, and the image you want to portray to your ideal client.
I'd love to see your mood board! Find me on Pinterest here.
